Surgical Associates is seeking a dedicated and skilled Sedation Nurse to join our outpatient vascular center team. The Sedation Nurse will be responsible for providing safe and effective sedation care to patients undergoing various outpatient procedures. The ideal candidate will have experience in delivering moderate and deep sedation, strong clinical judgment, and excellent communication skills to ensure a high standard of patient care. This is a full time position in a busy vascular outpatient setting, Mon thru Fri, all major holidays off and no weekend shifts.

Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment: Perform thorough assessments of patients prior to sedation, including reviewing medical histories, performing physical exams, and evaluating vital signs to determine sedation requirements.
- Sedation Administration: Administer sedation medications as per physician orders and established protocols, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the procedure.
- Monitor Patients: Continuously monitor patients’ vital signs and level of sedation during procedures, providing immediate care as necessary. Titrate sedation levels based on the patient's response and comfort.
- Collaboration: Work closely with physicians and healthcare teams to develop and implement individualized sedation plans, ensuring seamless communication and patient safety.
- Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about the sedation process, potential risks, and post-procedure care protocols, ensuring they feel informed and prepared.
- Emergency Management: Prepare to respond effectively to adverse reactions or emergencies during sedation procedures, including initiation of advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) as needed.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of patient assessments, sedation administration, monitoring, and responses in accordance with regulatory standards and facility policies.
- Compliance: Adhere to all regulatory and safety standards, including infection control protocols, anesthesia guidelines, and organizational policies.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to sedation practices, including attending training sessions, workshops, and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) may be accepted with additional experience.
- Licensure: Current registered nurse (RN) license in Maryland.
- **Experience:** Minimum of 5 years of experience in a clinical nursing setting, with at least 2 years in sedation or perioperative care preferred.
- Certifications: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred.
- Skills: Strong critical thinking skills, excellent communication abilities, and a compassionate bedside manner.
