What We're Looking For:
Barge Design Solutions is seeking a skilled Biologist with an emphasis on GIS capabilitiesto join our team in our Gainesville, FL office. This role will involve workingcollaboratively within a multi-discipline team to support the Environmental andNatural Resources area of practice on diverse projects throughout theSoutheastern U.S.
Responsibilities - Provide specialized technical expertise and guidance in GIS and digital data management services to the ENR group, focusing on mitigation banking and water quality improvement projects predominantly in Florida and the surrounding region.
- Utilize advanced GIS techniques to create detailed maps, manage spatial data, and facilitate field data organization, ensuring high-quality data collection and analysis.
- Proficiently use GPS units in conjunction with GIS applications to gather and evaluate environmental data effectively.
- Assist in the collection of field data for monitoring mitigation banks, restoration projects, and water quality projects including vegetation surveys, soil and water sampling, hydrologic measurements, and wildlife assessments.
- Performing Uniform Mitigation Assessment Method (UMAM) evaluations and data forms.
- Support the preparation of technical reports, data analyses, and regulatory submittals (e.g., FDEP, USACE) with a heavy reliance on GIS analysis.
- Installing and collecting data from staff gauges, groundwater monitoring wells, data loggers, and barometric pressure transducers.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to support project delivery and compliance.
- Assist in the preparation of project proposals and work plans, incorporating GIS insights to bolster project scopes and objectives.
Education & Experience Qualifications: - 3-7 years of relevant experience, with a strong focus on GIS applications within environmental settings.
- 4-year degree in an environmental-related field, such as biology, ecology, or environmental science.
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Desktop (including Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst Extensions) is essential, alongside practical experience with ArcGIS Online and Collector for ArcGIS for field data collection and assessment.
- Professional certifications, including Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) and/or Qualified Hydrologic Professional (QHP), are preferred.
- Experience in environmental fieldwork and relevant environmental training (OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER, OSHA 10-hour, wetland delineation, etc.) is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Flexibility to work with a hybrid office/remote work schedule with occasional travel to other Barge office locations and/or project sites as needed.
